NHS National Services Scotland: Annual Report

Challenge
NHS NSS is made up of 8 divisions each with its own unique purpose and identity and underpinned by a central Headquarters. They required an annual accountability report to outline the activities and achievements of the previous year and key goals for the future.
As well as highlighting new developments and projects NSS was undertaking it needed to provide a clear understanding of the services offered and how the different parts of the organisation cam together in terms of service provision and standards.
Response
The chosen concept ‘ONE’ was based on the fact that while the NSS comprises 8 disparate divisions and a vast array of services, all work towards one vision and one standard of service provision. The use of ‘ONE’ headlines throughout the report creates a theme that builds as the reader continues through. For those people and stakeholders who only ever come into contact with one element of the services, it illustrates the one bigger entity they are all part of.
The design was structured to give a better understanding of what the NSS do as an organisation, bringing their services to life with a unifying theme that used patient and staff quotes to highlight statistics and services.
The bold use of colour and strong graphics helped to breakdown any feel of a dull public service report and gave a modern, lively and dynamic feel to the organisation.
Result
Not only was the report extremely well received both internally and externally amongst its various audiences, it was recognised within the industry, being awarded Best Annual Report at the CiB Scotland awards.
